Why This 8-String Tenor Ukulele Stands Out

Why This 8-String Tenor Ukulele Stands Out

We built our KLŌS 8-string tenor ukulele for musicians who want the doubled strings, the comfort of a modern tenor, and the confidence to play at home, on stage, in the studio, or outside without treating the instrument like fragile cargo. This instrument is an easy way to add a lush, more dimensional voice to your playing, and that starts with the way an 8-string tenor ukulele works: the courses are tuned GGCCEEAA, with the G and C pairs octave-doubled and the E and A pairs in unison, so the chord shapes and melodies you already know still transfer directly. That means we can offer more texture, more shimmer, and more musical spread without asking players to relearn the ukulele from scratch.

A lot of the value comes from how we built it. This instrument has a carbon fiber composite body, a mahogany neck reinforced with carbon fiber rods, a 17-inch scale, 19 frets, and a total weight of just 1 pound 9 ounces. In real terms, that makes this a carbon fiber tenor ukulele with familiar tenor fret spacing but a very manageable carrying weight. It is also a durable ukulele that is “designed to be out,” not locked away, and we back that up by describing carbon fiber as highly resistant to temperature and humidity. This way, the instrument stays in tune longer and resists warping, bending, and cracking in changing climates. The included gig bag uses backpack-style materials, which strengthens the case for this to be a true travel ukulele rather than a delicate niche piece.

Tone is where an 8-string either wins people over or loses them, and we designed ours to win. Carbon fiber carries sound cleanly for impressive projection and sustain, while the doubled-course layout adds the chorus-like shimmer that makes this format so rich and musical. Just as important, we wanted to have both clarity and warmth. An 8-string tenor ukulele that gets louder but loses note definition is not much use to serious players. Owners on Ukulele Underground have described the sound as beautiful, even a little mahogany-like, and have highlighted the instrument’s travel-friendly toughness.

Playability is just as important as tone. The 8-string tenor ukulele has low action, precision-filed frets, and a PLEK-refined setup. This is especially important on an 8-string because doubled courses magnify every setup problem. We built this to feel inviting. Beginners get the advantage of familiar tuning logic and tenor spacing. Gigging players get a dependable gigging ukulele that is easier to move between rehearsal rooms, stages, and outdoor sessions. Recording musicians get a naturally layered sound that can fill space without sounding artificially stacked.

We are building for musicians who want weather resistance, lighter carry weight, modern setup work, premium hardware, travel-ready design, and long-term consistency. Brands like Kala, Lanikai, and Luna have great wood 8-string ukuleles. But if you want an 8-string tenor ukulele that is meant to move with you, sound expansive, and remove a lot of the environmental worry that comes with wood, this carbon fiber hybrid option might be for you.
