NEVER LEFT BEHIND
Designed to stay out of the case
While most high end ukuleles need to be kept in a case with a humidifier and babied, this ukulele was designed to stay out of the case, ready to play at all times. KLOS Acoustic ukuleles are durable, with temperature and humidity having no effect on carbon fiber. Our mission is to make ukuleles that are never left behind. Now with a KLOS, you can take your ukulele with you and have the piece of mind that it’s durable and reliable.
RUGGED AND DURABLE
Discover Carbon Fiber
Carbon fiber is significantly more durable than wood, and more resilient to dents, cracking and the elements. While a carbon fiber ukulele is still an instrument that deserves respect and love, at KLOS we believe that it should be treated more like a piece of gear that is never left behind.
Achieving the perfect playability is an art, and that’s what makes a ukulele easy to play. The nut, frets, and bridge all have an influence on the string playability, getting them all to work together perfectly is what makes a ukulele feel like home. Here at KLOS we take playability very seriously, that’s why we put a lot of attention into leveling the frets, filing the nuts, and adjusting the saddles. Each ukulele then gets played up and down the neck by our inspectors to confirm it’s worthy to have a KLOS logo and go out the door.
Best 8-string tuners on the market
Easy to Tune, Easy to Maintain
Other 8-string ukulele headstocks can easily unbalance the instrument since ukes are light and tuners are heavy. We use best-in-class, purpose built Graph Tech Ratio tuners on our 8-string build to deliver easy, quick tuning that won't slip or skip
Our proprietary KLŌS Minimalist headstocks are right at home on the 8-string uke, since they combine our extensively tested string break angle with a compact design that increases durability and reduces weak points
HOW DOES IT SOUND?
How does a carbon fiber ukulele sound, compared to wood? If you do a blind test, most people can’t tell the difference. That being said, comparing carbon fiber to wood, there are a lot more variables that you can more precisely control to achieve a great sound, and that is exactly what we did.
Ships from our factory in Salt Lake City Utah
We are proud to have our factory located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, which was the original inspiration for combining adventure with ukuleles. We are proud to do the design, assembly, and most of the building in our own factory in Utah, and we buy parts and materials from world renowned factories overseas.
OUR PEOPLE ARE OUR ADVANTAGE
Crafted with Care
A big question we ask ourselves is: which part of the guitar building process requires the most skill, and impacts the player the most? The first half or the second half? Our answer: the second half. So we outsource some parts and materials (the first half), and keep the second half of the manufacturing process in house, and do it ourselves. This allows us to scale as a company and focus on building quality instruments that are incredible to play.
WOOD MEETS CARBON
The Hybrid models have a wood neck and a carbon fiber body. The main design principle comes from this question: what is the weakest link in a traditional wood ukulele? The answer is: the body, because it is made out of thin wood that needs to resonate. So the KLOS Hybrid was born by strengthening the weakest link. With a carbon fiber body you get excellent durability and resilience to temperature and humidity.
The KLOS Hybrid Neck
The hybrid wood neck features a composite fretboard. The fretboard on the neck is a composite synthetic ebony which does not expand or contract with temperature or humidity changes or with time. That means you will never have issues with sharp frets, and your great great grandchildren won’t either. The beautiful ebony-like fretboard is dense, durable and smooth. While the Hybrid Neck is significantly more resilient than a standard wood neck, it is still made out of wood, that being said, we recommend that you treat it with care the same way that you wood a regular wood neck. If you are looking for something even more rugged, our Full carbon series is the choice for you.
FOR JOURNEYS LARGE AND SMALL
KLOS Uke gig bag
The gig bag materials are made from the same stuff that camping backpacks are made out of, making it durable and reliable. With the ukulele itself being very durable, a traditional hard case is not as necessary for most day to day use, making the KLOS soft case gig bag is the perfect choice for the KLOS ukulele.
COMPACT AND ICONIC
The headstock is a compact shape, making the overall length of the neck shorter. It makes tuning your strings just as comfortable, yet feel lighter. The tuners are the heaviest part of the neck, so keeping the weight of the tuners down, and having a lightweight carbon neck will make ukulele playing for hours even more enjoyable.
The headstock break angle is 11 degrees, making it the optimal angle to have the perfect string force on the nut. This lowers the friction of the string on the nut, which lowers the chances of your strings going out of tune on their own, and makes tuning your strings more precise. When you look at the neck from a front view, you will also see that the strings go in almost a straight line, which also lowers the friction on the nut, which also helps create optimal tuning.
The onboard Fishman Kula preamp system (with integrated tuner) makes it easy to plug into an amplifier to practice, play live music, or record.
This ukulele is strung with D’Addario clear nylon strings, and all of our instruments are strung, tuned, tested, and inspected before they leave our shop.
How to Tune an 8-String
The tuning is easy to learn, since it’s the same GCEA tuning that you’re used to and the additional strings are doubled (so, GGCCEEAA). The G and C doubled strings are tuned an octave apart, and the E and A strings are tuned in unison. The easiest way to describe the resulting sound is a cross between a ukulele and a mandolin, and the greater volume and feel can sound like two ukuleles playing in harmony.
8 String Acoustic-Electric Tenor Ukulele
The experience began with an enthusiastic sales rep who I enjoyed speaking with. Excellent quality instrument. Great intonation. Nice feel on the neck. Nice crisp and full sound that cuts through when playing with other instruments. It has immediately become my number one ukulele. I play outside quite a bit and I've had wood instruments warp over time. (Conditions include hot, humid summers by water and cold, snowy times by a fire pit) Look forward to the durability of the carbon fiber. I like the idea of a full carbon fiber instrument, but this will do. Nice looking as well. Thank you Klos!
This looks and sounds great. As a side benefit, it is practically indestructible, so I don't worry about it when I bring it places. The built-in tuner is very convenient, and the Fishman electronics work just fine. Having twice the number of strings lets it put out a beautiful sound, and people in my group have offered unsolicited comments about how nice it sounds.
Sleek and unique
Love the look of the uke, the tuning machines, and the EQ. Will be using this uke to record music and more.
Great build quality and has a unique sound. Very lightweight and feels good in the hands. Love the quality-of-life features like a built-in tuner and piezo pickup. While the 8-string sound isn't for everyone, it still sounds superb.
Excellent for rhythm tunes!
Very wholesome sound that is an absolute pleasure to play chords on. A little more difficult to play single notes, but perhaps I’ll start trying with a pick.
Carbon fiber- more than a gimmick
Often playing alternate material instruments I have found you pay more for the uniqueness of the piece than the functionality of it. That’s not so with this uke. It sounds and plays like a dream. I’m not a big fan of pick ups on acoustic instruments but this one makes it work. The pickup/tuner combo is a nice addition. Very easy to use. If you’re into buying good instruments then this best be on your list.
