The concept is simpler than the term suggests. Scale length is the vibrating length of a guitar string. Or, the span of open string between the nut at the top of the neck and the bridge saddle at the body. That distance determines fret spacing, string tension at a given pitch, and a significant part of how a guitar sounds and responds under your fingers.

How to Measure Guitar Scale Length
